Global Ministries 2023 Grants

The Global Ministries 2023 Racial Ethnic Local Church Grant (RELC) and the Annual Conference Multiethnic Ministries Grant cycle is now open. All applications are due by February 15, 2023.

RELC grants are awarded to assist local racial/ethnic congregations (at least 51% racial/ethnic membership) and annual conferences with projects and programs on one of the three areas: 1) Leadership Development; 2) Church Growth, Congregational Development and Ministry Development; 3)Pastoral Salary Support.

Annual Conference Multiethnic Ministries (MEM) Grants are provided to assist annual conferences with programs focusing on racial/ethnic leadership development and racial/ethnic church growth and development. The MEM grants provide financial resources up to $15,000 per annual conference. Seven Multiethnic Ministries grants are available for 2023.
 

RELC Grant Criteria

  1. The ministry/project must be a program of a majority racial/ethnic (at least 51%) local church or annual conference program of the United Methodist Church in the United States.
  2. The ministry/project must focus on developing and strengthening the racial/ethnic local church for witness and mission.
  3. Applicants can apply for a programmatic grant OR pastoral salary support, not both.
  4. The grant application requires a signature of the district superintendent and the resident bishop of the area where the ministry/project is located.
  5. The ministry/project must involve racial/ethnic church members in the planning, leadership, and decision-making.
  6. Priority will be given to new programs. Grants funded in the previous three years will not be given priority for the funding in the current year cycle.
  7. Maximum grant for a project is $10,000 and applications must reflect other resources from local congregation/district and/or conference. The maximum grant for salary support is a one-year grant, in the amount of $10,000.
  8. Churches must contribute at least 10% of the requested grant amount, and the contribution must be reflected in the income section of the budget.

MEM Grant Criteria

  1. The ministry/project must focus on racial/ethnic leadership development and racial/ethnic church growth and development.
  2. The ministry/project must involve racial-ethnic conference members (clergy and/or lay) in the planning, leadership, and decision-making.
  3. Priority will be given to new programs. Grants funded in the previous three years will not be given priority for the funding in the current year cycle.
  4. The ministry/project must be a program of a majority racial-ethnic local church or annual conference of the United Methodist Church in the United States.
  5. Maximum grant for a project is $15,000 and applications must reflect other resources from the conference. Annual Conferences must contribute at least 10% of the requested grant amount, and the contribution must be reflected in the income section of the budget.
